A new publication on sustainable Eucalyptus cultivation has recently been made available by Instituto Superior de Agronomía (ISA) at Lisbon.
An update of the 1990 book Impactes ambientais e sócio-económicos do eucaliptal em Portugal by Monteiro Alves, Santos Pereira & Galvão Borges, along the 400 pages of O Eucaliptal em Portugal you can find a summary of the latest scientific research on topics highly related to Eucalyptus sustainable cultivation, covering impacts on soil, water or biodiversity, plus their relationship with forest fires and climate change.
A wide range of authors from Portugal but also high profile international researchers have contributed with their recent findings to give the reader a wide range view on the latest scientific state-of-the-art for Eucalyptus environmental impact identification and assessment.
An attractive editorial effort, a good base technical resource for those interested in these always polemic topics and a good starting point to then take a further step into more specialised literature. Back in December you left a comment on my blog regarding my potted Eucalyptus kruseana, asking that I update you on how it's doing. It continued to do well until about 3 weeks ago when we had a very hot spell (113 degrees F.) with hot winds. The tree's leaves looked like they were freeze dried--it went from healthy to dry in one day! I noticed some leaves were still ok, not many, but some. I continued to water it and now it have hundreds of new leaves, so maybe it will recover. This same thing happened to my sister's potted ones 2 years ago. I guess they just can't take such extreme temperature swings, especially if accompanied with hot winds.
I hope it recovers as it had grown a foot since December and was just beautiful.

I remember your Kruse's Gum Tree! Very nice looking. When the aerial part of a big potted eucalypt starts to gain in size, transpiration rates can be quite big in very hot days. Frequent irrigation might be necessary, even in Maritime climates like mine.
After a time without repotting or root pruning, roots could also fill the whole pot, and this way it is also difficult to keep the almost non existant substrate moist. But I think your plant might not be yet there.
One thing is certain, it will recover. Eucalyptus are quite prone to resurrection :-)
You might want to keep it well irrigated and maybe add some fertiliser to help boost the newest growth. Or, if you feel like sculpting Eucalyptus, use secateurs to promote new growth just to a certain height. This species should respond well to these techniques.
