Target Accomplished!

Just a couple weeks ago we started a corporate sponsorship programme with a nice objective in mind: Putting a free high quality printed copy of the Global Eucalyptus Map in the hands of each attendee to the World Forestry Congress. This way an interesting chunk of key international forestry people, academics, industry people, trade people, forestry students, and visitors in general, would have access to the latest information about the state of the art for Eucalyptus cultivation around the world!

Working continuously and against the clock we have managed to update, re-design, pre-print, print & ship to Buenos Aires several thousand colour-printed copies of the Global Eucalyptus Map 2009.

How it was done...

"Handy" ISO DIN A3 sized colour printed copies of the Global Eucalyptus Map 2009: A corporate gift from GIT Forestry Consulting SL & Sponsors to the attendees to the 13th World Forestry Congress (Buenos Aires, 18 to 23 October 2009) and to the attendees to the 42nd International Congress & Exhibition on Cellulosic Pulp & Paper ( Sao Paulo, 26 to 29 October 2009).

Your gift has been printed on high quality FSC Certified Cyclus Offset recycled paper supplied by Grupo Torras. Part of its fibers may well have been once Eucalyptus globulus timber grown in the coastal "rainforests" of Galicia. So, all in all, you can get an Eucalyptus map printed on Eucalyptus paper!

World's Forestry Community meets in Argentina!

Buenos Aires, October 2009 – On Sunday, October 18th, the XIII World Forestry Congress “Forests in Development, Vital Balance”, organized by the Argentine Republic and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will be opening.

The Opening Ceremony will take place by 5 pm at “La Rural” Convention Center in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, and will count on the presence of the Chief of Government for Buenos Aires, Mr. Mauricio Macri; FAO Director-General Mr. Jacques Diouf; WFC2009 Secretary General, Mr. Leopoldo Montes; Quebec's Director-General of Forest Management and Development, Mr Mario Gibeault; Director State Forestry Administration of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Jia Zhibang and the Representative of the Native Amazonian Peoples, Mr. Euclides Pereira, among others.

Participating also, ministers from Chile, the Republic of Congo, Costa Rica and New Zealand, and official delegations from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain and the United States of America.

The 13th World Forestry Congress will last from October 18th to 23d and it is expected to receive over 4500 people from over 160 countries. It will host two forums of great importance: “Forests and Energy” and “Forests and Climate Change”, a good number of parallel side events and a new activity: the Business Roundtable, first time taking place in an event of this nature.

“Forests in Development, Vital Balance” is the motto for this Congress, and it will be addressed from social, ecological and economic perspectives. This will allow to create spaces for analysis of the functions of such a natural resource in local, regional and global scenarios.

In this sense, the importance of every kind of forest and their contribution to sustainable development in the world will be remarked. First line international speakers, academic organizations, timber growers, environmental organizations, indigenous and rural communities, specialist public servants and politicians linked to this sector will participate in order to offer a global integrating perspective from the Congress on the future of our forests.

"Forests in development, Vital balance"

The XIII World Forestry Congress to take place in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina, between October 18th and 23d 2009 is organized by FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) and the Government of the Argentinean Republic. Its function as top international level event in this field is to diagnose the general situation of forests and forestry to identify tendencies, adapt policies and stimulate consciousness among interested parties and forestry actors. The First World Forestry Congress was celebrated in Rome by 1926 and since then it is regularly repeated, normally every 6 years. Together with the WFC 1972 also in Buenos Aires, Argentina is the only country hosting this event twice.

During the Congress scientific and academic meetings will contribute to the exchange of opinions and experiences between the different actors of the international forestry community. Individual attendees to the Congress travelling from different areas of the world are invited to send papers or works expressing new ideas, and to provide information on experiences, conceptual models and interesting initiatives. These works will be published in the Congress Proceedings and in its official website. The WFC 2009 will also host a commercial fair at “La Rural” Convention Center in Palermo, with display stands of different sizes, and it will also offer to the attendees the opportunity to take post-Congress tours to the most important forestry regions of Argentina.

One year ago our team at GIT Forestry Consulting launched the Global Eucalyptus Map 2008 project.
