EUCALYPTOLOGICS received a commission from Universidade de Vigo & Asociación Monte-Industria to ellaborate a global resource map for cultivated Eucalyptus globulus forests. The result, displayed above, depicts geographic and quantitative information about the major and minor areas of Tasmanian Blue Gum cultivation around the world. A timeline of key events ranging from the discovery of the species at Recherche Bay two hundred years ago to the current timber crop situation worldwide is also included.

There are some 2.3 million hectares of E. globulus plantations in the world and roughly a 50% of this concentrates in the Atlantic climate areas of Spain and Portugal, making of EUROGLOBULUS a strategic timber resource for pulpwood and solid wood based industrial lines in Iberia and Europe. Australia, Chile and Uruguay complete the Top 5 for this type of cultivated forests and together with Iberia concentrate more than 85% of E. globulus timber resources in the world.

Their potential as renewable timber sources to diminish logging pressure on natural forests and their potential as massive carbon sinks to diminish the effects of global warming are two of the major contributions of Ferdinand Mueller's Prince of Eucalypts to sustainable development.
